Whats All This Buzz Talk About Google Buzz

Google has yet another new toy for us to play with from Google – Google Buzz. Built into Gmail, Google Buzz is Google’s new attempt at social networking – what ever happened to Orkut???

Google Buzz is being promoted as a service for sharing short messages, images, videos, and links to articles on the Web. The reality is Goggle are actually only mimicking the look and features of  Facebook and Twitter.

Nowadays more and more communication is occurring happening online and social networking has exploded so I understand why Google wants a piece of this action.

But can Google Buzz stop this mass exodus of online conversing via Facebook and Twitter and instead encourage people to use their social media platform? Ummmmm I may have to have a long think about that one? Is Google Buzz going to kill the Twitter bird or get up in the face of Facebook , Ladies and gentleman are we on the verge of a social media revolution. Don’t hold your breaths please!!!!

Personally can I trust a money driven mega company like Google, full of exceptional PHD students fresh out of school to run a social networking facility. What does Google really know about social networking? These guys still live with their mums, watch old episodes of star trek and drink milk before their bed time.

Twitter, Facebook and even YouTube where all unknown websites at one point that grow as people started to realise the potential of these websites. These websites earned their place in the industry of social networking and for this reason alone they are now trusted websites and pioneers of social media, like Google is a pioneer when it comes to search. However Google forcing its way into this area with its bright brand new social networking facility isn’t going to cut the mustard.

But Google are relentless in their bid to take over the world. They have even started advertising on TV. The screened a 1 minute advert called Parisian Love” during Super Bowl that cost them $5m. So they are differently uncomfortable in their seats and are now feeling the pressure of other companies nipping at their heels. In my mind Google Buzz is just another fat finger in another pie for them. Another platform for them to sell adverts on. The question is will they get burnt.

So as you can tell I am not yet “buzzing” with excitement over Google Buzz. In fact I’m a little confused….do they not want me to use Orkut (like any of us do anyway hee hee). Do they not want me to use Google Wave?? Wasn’t Google Wave supposed to be a tool that made communicating and sharing easier? If that is the case why then have Google released another social media tool that makes communicating and sharing easier? Aren’t they technically the same thing???  Do I now Buzz someone or Wave at them??? What next Google Poke?  Google Connect? Google Gabble? Google TwitFace?

Like with most new toys I think the appeal of Google Buzz will wear off quickly and we will go back to our older more established favourite toys
